Traditions
Meshrep
A gathering of music, dance, food and conversation where communities pass on their customs.
A meshrep is a traditional gathering that brings people together for music, dance, food, games and storytelling. It is also a place where younger people learn manners, customs and respect for elders.
Meshrep was inscribed on UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding in 2010.
Communities abroad keep the tradition alive with their own gatherings, often around holidays such as Nowruz, the spring new year celebrated around 21 March.
