US sends third aircraft carrier to the Middle East as Trump weighs new action against Iran

The United States is deploying a third aircraft-carrier strike group to the Middle East as the war with Iran enters its eighth month: the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group and the USS Makin Island amphibious readiness group — carrying roughly 7,000 sailors and 2,000 to 3,000 Marines — could put three US carriers in the region by the end of October. The USS George H.W. Bush and USS George Washington are already operating there. After rejecting Iran's seven-day ceasefire offer, President Trump is weighing renewed military action after the November 3 midterms — no new strike order has been issued.
