World Uyghur Congress marks October 1 with demands, coordinated protests in Berlin and Istanbul

The World Uyghur Congress has issued a press release marking October 1, the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, calling on the international community to sustain action over what it describes as severe human rights abuses. The appeal names Uyghurs, Hong Kongers, Tibetans and Southern Mongolians, and demands the release of arbitrarily detained Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz and other Turkic peoples, an end to forced assimilation policies including China's new Ethnic Unity Law, targeted sanctions, and support for Uyghur self-determination — these are the WUC's claims, reported here as claims. The WUC also reported coordinated protests on October 1 in Germany, Belgium and Türkiye, including a rally from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. outside the Chinese Embassy in Berlin and an 11:00 a.m. demonstration outside the Chinese Consulate General in Istanbul's Tarabya district.
