Two dead, one missing as floods batter Spain's Catalonia

Barcelona, October 4 — Two people have died and one person is missing after torrential rain and flooding battered Spain's Catalonia region, authorities said on Sunday. Catalan leader Salvador Illa confirmed a man died in Tordera, north of Barcelona, after a wall collapsed; firefighters said another person died in Montornès del Vallès, while emergency services searched for a missing person in Pineda de Mar. Authorities issued a red alert urging residents to stay indoors from Saturday evening until Sunday afternoon as an exceptional Mediterranean weather system threatened a "mini-hurricane"; Barcelona recorded its highest daily rainfall since records began in 1883. Flights were cancelled or delayed at Barcelona airport and all local trains were disrupted.
